Easy Poke recipe based on Da Poke shack in Kona
This is an amazing Poke Recipe based on my favorite Dynamite Poke served by the food folks at Da Pole Shack in Kona, Hawaii. I did a review of Da Poke Shack during my visit to Hawaii two years ago and have been obsessed with this style of Pole ever since. This preparation is very creamy from the avocado and dressing. This recipe is great for someone who is trying poke for the first time.
Poke is a Hawaiian raw seafood salad that is very refreshing and one of my favorite ways to enjoy sushi grade tuna. Pokē is a verb that translate to “to slice or cut” and refers to the tuna being cut into small bite sized cubes. Traditional poke is made from yellow tail tuna that is mixed with any given number of dressing and complimentary ingredients.
Easy Creamy Avocado Ahi Poke Recipe
(serves 4 as a meal or 6 as a side / appetizer)
Ingredients
2 ripe avocados (separated) – diced
2 Tablespoons mayonnaise
4 Tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
2 Tablespoon Sriracha (optional or add more if you like for kick)
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 Tablespoons fish sauce
1 Teaspoon toasted sesame oil
2 Teaspoons dry garlic
½ cup thinly sliced sweet onions
12 ounces of sushi grade Ahi tuna steak (diced)
2 tablespoons Furikake( if you have some), otherwise use toasted sesame seeds and toasted seaweed
Instruction
1) In a medium bowl combine the meat of one avocado, mayonnaise, soy sauce lemon juice, Sriracha (optional), sesame oil, fish sauce, and dry garlic. Stir thoroughly such that all the ingredients are combined and the avocado is broken down into a sauce (some chunks of avocado are good). You create this sauce first so that the tuna is not damaged while mixing and breaking down the avocado
2) Add Tuna, onion, furikake and other portion of cubed avocado to the top of the sauce mixture. Gently fold the ingredients into each other.
3) Serve with extra furikake on top
I am personally trying to lose weight, so I do not serve my poke with rice (which is the traditional method). Instead I serve my poke with snow peas and watermelon.
